teaches that the : Wealth, Sexual Pleasure, Fame, Food, and Sleep, are the five roots that lead directly to the hells. For those of you who are dedicated practitioners, you must treat this warning with the utmost caution. While people generally view sleep as a necessary method for physical recovery, the spirit itself does not require rest. In truth, the spirit is capable of maintaining a state of keen awareness and sensitivity 24/7.
When the cells of your physical body enter the state of deep sleep, the activities of your spirit shift into a different space within . If your spirit is pulled by other beings into these external spaces, it becomes subject to pollution. This is a critical point for all practitioners to understand. You may work diligently during the day to engage in the purification of the body, heart, and spirit, yet at night, while your body rests, your spirit may be led by karmic or into states of Greed, Anger, Ignorance, Arrogance, and Doubt, or the Five Desires: Wealth, Sexual Pleasure, Fame, Food, and Sleep.
This phenomenon occurs to almost everyone. Because the spirit is led away during sleep, it cannot be fully purified, and its quality remains difficult to elevate. For the fourfold assembly, it is essential to recognise that for your practice to be effective, the continuous purification of the body, heart, and spirit is required. Specifically, the clarity and purification of the spirit are absolutely necessary. However, many of you often find yourselves caught in a cycle of progress and regression, where you purify your spirit through your daily practice, only to allow it to become re-polluted during your rest, forcing you to begin the process of purification all over again.
Chanting the name of Namo Amituofo 24/7 is the most convenient and effective method for the purification of the body, heart, and spirit. This is because, by chanting, you receive the direct support of the Buddha's . Even during your sleep, if you can maintain the Buddha-name, the combination of your own sincere effort and the power of Namo Amituofo will act as a shield. This protection prevents your spirit from being led away by karmic creditors into other spaces.
Namo Amituofo sincerely hopes that every member of the fourfold assembly at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre will succeed in their practice. Do not fall back into the cycle of rebirth and suffering. Simply follow the Buddha's actions, and you will find the path to true liberation. Namo Amituofo.
