Prostrating to the Buddha is a practice of immense benefit. It is not merely a physical act but a profound spiritual exercise that serves as a cornerstone for your daily practice. When you bow, your entire body—every muscle and bone—vibrates in harmony. As you stretch, your mind remains focused on the sacred name of . This practice clears the blockages in your meridians and improves the circulation of blood throughout your body. You will feel a sense of mental clarity and refreshment as the healing energy of the Buddha enters your being.
Even if you feel the presence of within you, or if your body is in such pain that you find it difficult to move, you must persist. You must endure the suffering with patience and continue your sincere repenting without interruption. It is through this unwavering commitment that you make your vow to reach the of Ultimate Bliss alongside all other beings. During your prostrations, let the name of Namo Amituofo echo in your heart and ears. Keep the Buddha in your mind at all times, never letting go of this connection.
When you bow with a sincere heart and a spirit of repenting, you will be bathed in the radiant Buddha-light. This light is magnificent; it helps your karmic creditors resolve their grievances and washes away the stains of your body and mind. When these beings, who may be attached to your physical form, receive the Buddha-light, they too can resolve their resentment and join you in chanting Namo Amituofo, seeking rebirth in the Western Pure Land. This is the supreme power of the Buddha-light and the great of Namo Amituofo.
While this is the blessing of the Buddha, you must also possess the three foundations of Faith, Vows, and Practice. You must take the initiative to act in the present moment. If you feel pain while prostrating, it is a sign that your is manifesting. If you do not prostrate, how else will you resolve this karma? You must ask yourself: have you been storing up enough provisions for your journey? If you have diligently cultivated and merit, you will have sufficient resources to satisfy your karmic creditors. However, you must also sincerely wish for these beings to find resolution so that your merit can be effectively applied. If your provisions are insufficient, you must be even more active in your prostrations. Seek the Buddha's blessing to dissolve your spiritual obstacles and resolve all grievances, bringing peace to all beings. This is what it truly means to be a practitioner who chants the Buddha's name.
