During the second session of the , Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offers profound insights on the nature of spiritual advancement, urging us to maintain a steady and compassionate heart as we walk the path of the Buddha.
One must possess true wisdom when deciding whether to advance or retreat. We must respect one another, for mutual respect is the foundation of a harmonious community. Treating others with courtesy brings peace to the heart; this is the essence of virtue and the practice of the . When we interact with others through kindness and respect, we create a stable environment where the mind can settle, allowing our practice to flourish.
Regarding secular matters, it is often better to retreat. Do not hold these worldly concerns in your heart, for they are transient. If you let them go, they will naturally resolve themselves without disturbing your inner peace. When teaching beings, one must observe their capacity and act accordingly. Whether to advance or retreat depends entirely on the situation and the needs of those you are guiding. By remaining flexible and observant, you ensure that your efforts to teach are always effective.
In your practice, move forward with diligent practice. Do not be discouraged by the challenges you face; when you encounter obstacles, break through them with determination and faith. There is no end to advancement; you must keep moving forward, step by step. As long as there are infinite beings suffering in the cycle of rebirth, our advancement must be infinite. We must continue this journey until we realise our true nature and the manifests. Across this world and others, we advance together, heading straight into the of Ultimate Bliss.
Students of Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, the fourfold assembly is one body with one heart. We are all travelling together on the Dharma boat toward the West. Every individual's progress toward realising their true nature is the result of their own diligent practice and breakthrough, which is something we all rejoice in.
