The concept of the "past" is a vast, intricate tapestry woven from countless moments. It is a complex progression governed by the laws of and cause and effect, unfolding through a mixture of both goodness and evil. Throughout our many lifetimes, we have created endless negative karma, yet we have also performed virtuous deeds that benefit all beings. We have engaged in acts of Generosity, practised the , attained meditative concentration, and developed wisdom. However, regardless of what we have done in the past, we must now focus on the present.
For the fourfold assembly of disciples currently residing at Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, you possess an extraordinary advantage in your practice. You are supported by the presence of is residing here, as well as the compassionate guidance of the Teacher and Practitioner Su. Even as you face the challenges of your present karma, including the influence of , spiritual attachment, and the interference of demon crowds, you have the perfect environment to overcome these obstacles. You must strive for diligent practice, seek breakthroughs, and focus on your purification. This requires you to overcome your own personality traits and maintain a firm resolve and constant awareness.
The state of the fourfold assembly is critical. If you truly wish to change, you must engage in sincere repenting. This is the only way to find salvation in the present moment. If you remain unaware of your mistakes, fail to repent, and continue to follow your own habitual tendencies, how can you save yourself or be saved by the Buddha? Many people speak of shame and repentance, yet it is difficult to see any actual change in their behaviour. Often, it is only when one faces severe illness or physical suffering—when one realises that life is fragile and is in pain—that one finally develops the genuine desire to change the heart. True change involves:
If you are able to truly change your heart and your actions, this is the greatest fortune for a practitioner. It is also a profound blessing for the karmic creditors residing within your body. Through this transformation, you become eligible to receive the performed by Namo Amituofo, the Teacher, and Practitioner Su, allowing you to leave suffering behind and find happiness through rebirth in the Western Pure Land.
