Moving Forward
The Suffering of the World and the Path to Salvation
No matter which era we live in, even in this modern age of advanced technology and constant distraction, the fundamental requirements for success in our spiritual practice remain unchanged. If you wish to achieve true progress on the path to , you must be willing to let go of the personality traits and deep-seated habits of the past. Diligence and unremitting effort are the unchanging principles of the path. When the principle is clearly established in your heart, putting it into practice becomes a smooth and profoundly beneficial journey.
At the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, this commitment to diligent practice is the cornerstone of our daily life. We must be steadfast in our efforts to transform ourselves. This involves a dedicated approach to our daily spiritual exercises:
You must apply this spirit of diligent practice to every single moment of your life. Whether you are in the temple or going about your daily tasks, the practice must continue.
For the people of China, and indeed for all who seek the truth, diligence is understood from youth to old age as a fundamental necessity. It is something we know we must do, and we know that if we act with such sincerity, the results will be profoundly beneficial. When you are walking the path of practice in this world, if you truly understand that diligence is beneficial, you must move forward directly without hesitation.
Do not underestimate the power of your efforts, no matter how small they may seem. Every single drop of effort contributes to the ocean of wisdom. Many practitioners have reached the state of Awakening in a single moment of clarity, precisely because they did not give up on their daily, incremental progress.
If you desire to purify your mind and realise your true nature, the removal of all impurities is an absolute necessity. Diligence is one of the most effective methods to achieve this purification. It is not enough to simply know the theory of the path; you must put it into action. Know the truth, and then live it through your daily practice. By remaining diligent, you ensure that your path remains straight and that you are always moving closer to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Let your practice be a constant, flowing stream of devotion, and you will surely find the happiness you seek.
