What does it mean to possess a heart that is truly clear and understanding? The hearts of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and those who have realised their true nature are perfectly clear and transparent. They do not commit transgressions, and they conduct themselves in perfect alignment with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way.
How is it that they possess such profound meditative concentration? It is because, following the process of purification, they see all things with absolute clarity. When they look upon the suffering of beings, they understand the origin of that suffering. They know that it is the result of negative causes sown in the past. Consequently, they are extremely cautious not to sow any new negative causes, thereby avoiding the bitter consequences that would surely follow. This is the wisdom of the saying: Bodhisattvas fear the cause, while ordinary beings fear the result.
A clear and understanding heart also recognises the rarity of encountering . It understands that the causal conditions between the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre and this world are truly magnificent. In this rare and precious period, you must cherish every moment and ensure that not a single second passes in vain. You should engage in diligent practice by keeping the holy name of Namo Amituofo flowing continuously in your heart, thought after thought, without interruption.
A heart that is clear and understanding is also a heart that embodies the following virtues: , , the ability to let go, and humility. By upholding the without violation, one naturally attains meditative concentration and wisdom. This is the ultimate remedy to extinguish greed, anger, and ignorance. It is the most effective method for purification. You must practise this diligently and without laziness, working constantly to change your personality traits so that your old, unrefined habits no longer manifest.
A clear and understanding heart is an essential requirement for any practitioner who wishes to realise their true nature. The fourfold assembly of disciples must protect their hearts with great care. Do not allow your heart to be stained by the dust of worldly defilements. Do not let this clarity be covered by the shadows of delusion. Furthermore, do not allow your to manifest and obstruct your practice. Only by guarding your heart in this way can you possess the wisdom necessary to make true progress on the path to Buddhahood.
