The journey of spiritual practice is fraught with many trials and tests. We undertake this journey to shake off the dust that has accumulated upon us over countless aeons. Once the dust has fallen from our garments, we must continue to purify our bodies and remove the lingering stains of our past. These layers of defilement have become embedded within our physical form, and it is our duty to cleanse them until we reveal the inherent purity that lies beneath.
We may ask ourselves: once we have purified our spirit and our heart, where do they reside? We search for them, yet they remain elusive. We cannot touch them, nor can we find them with our physical eyes, yet they are always with us. It is the presence of the spirit that allows this body to have a master. The spirit is an entity that is neither born nor destroyed; it is the essence of our being.
The heart resides within the spirit, and it is the heart that takes charge of our actions. Where there is a heart, there is , and where there is consciousness, there is . The Eighth Consciousness, or the , serves as a vast storehouse. It records every event, every thought, and every action from across all aeons. Because this record is so extensive, we must be vigilant.
Do not commit further transgressions. Do not allow yourself to be stained by new defilements. When the heart does not arise to act, it is considered to be in a state of no-mind. When one reaches the state of no-mind, there is no opportunity for transgressions to be committed, and no cause for suffering to arise. It is through this state of no-mind that one can transform karma, and it is through the transformation of consciousness that wisdom is revealed.
When the spirit is free from the influence of the heart, and when that spirit is pure, good, and untainted, it becomes clear, transparent, and luminous. This spirit is light, cool, and refreshing. It is capable of moving in and out of with . At this moment, one has truly realised their true self. This is the state of an awakened being.
Consider the body as a collection of countless cells. Each cell possesses its own life, its own activity, and its own karmic imprint. These cells are also endowed with a heart and a spirit. If a cell is governed by a heart, it is subject to the karmic manifestations of birth, aging, sickness, and death. However, if a cell is without such a heart, it is free from consciousness, and therefore, karma has no way to manifest. If the spirit within the cell is pure and free from karma, then the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death ceases to exist.
When every single cell within the body reaches this state of purity, one has achieved the state of eternal youth. The entire body becomes as transparent and luminous as glass. This is the original, natural state of our true self. This heart carries the spirit through the cycle of rebirth, but when the spirit is pure and the heart is empty—when the heart is completely free from all attachments—it returns to the original state of the true self.
This state is the infinite treasury of light, which illuminates the mountains, the rivers, and the entire void of space. After one has realised their true nature, every cell and every spirit within the body becomes clear, transparent, and luminous. This is the manifestation of the countless manifestations of the Buddha.
The spirits of these countless manifestations are all spirits that have realised their true nature. Because they have realised this nature, they are capable of further countless manifestations. This process continues indefinitely, allowing for an infinite number of manifestations. This is truly inconceivable and beyond the reach of human logic or scientific understanding.
This is the vastness of the Buddha’s teachings. Yet, this potential is something that every single person possesses from the very beginning. It is the infinite nature of our true self, allowing us to follow conditions and operate with complete freedom and ease. .
