Naturally So
Time is a river that flows without pause, never waiting for anyone. It is a constant, relentless force that shapes our existence, whether we are ready for its passage or not. As we move through our days, we must reflect deeply: are our aspirations being washed away by the current of time, or are they being realised through our efforts? As each moment passes, we must ask ourselves: are we using this precious time to secure our liberation, or are we allowing ourselves to drift further into the cycle of rebirth? Every single second is an opportunity to be saved, yet it is also a potential moment to fall deeper into confusion. We are either ascending toward the light or sinking into the depths of our own delusions.
Consider the state of your physical body. Is it slowly aging, decaying, and becoming burdened by illness as the days turn into years? Or, through your diligent practice, are you finding that your energy is increasing, your health is improving, and your spirit is becoming more vibrant? For the elderly, time often feels as though it is accelerating; they may look back at a time when their bodies were strong and full of vitality, only to find that age has brought a decline in their physical strength. Conversely, children often wish for time to pass quickly, eager to grow up so they may participate in the world of adults. Yet, time remains perfectly equal for everyone. Each person is gifted with twenty-four hours in a single day. The difference lies not in the time itself, but in the heart of the individual, the environment they inhabit, and the way they choose to spend their days.
How are you spending your days at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre? For the fourfold assembly of disciples, are you making progress each day, or are you slipping backward? Are you living every moment with diligent practice, never daring to be lazy, or are you simply content to let the days pass by, hoping that things will work out on their own? True progress is found in the active transformation of the heart. Through our daily spiritual work, we can purify ourselves by letting go of our delusion, discrimination, and attachment:
By engaging in these practices, we strip away the layers of our ego and allow our true nature to shine through.
How your life passes depends entirely on your heart. To adjust this heart with goodness and wisdom is the mark of a true practitioner. We must strive to live our lives through the following virtues:
