Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Shi Haize.
Maintaining the stillness of your body, mind, and spirit, ensuring that your inner world remains as calm and undisturbed as a still lake, is the foundation of your practice. This is not only an act of profound toward yourself, but it is also a vital act of compassion toward all suffering beings. When you are at peace, you cease to be a source of turbulence for others.
The Three Learnings of Precepts, Samadhi, and Wisdom, combined with the purity and goodness inherent in the sacred name of , serve as a guiding light. They are the tools that help both you and all beings enter a state of purity, goodness, and meditative concentration. By walking this path, you and all beings can finally step out of the cycle of suffering and find true liberation.
When beings are currently suffering, their hearts are filled with deep-seated pain. Naturally, they will seek out those who have caused them harm in the past to demand retribution. If you find yourself facing such karmic retribution, you must engage in sincere repentance and truly change your ways. You must strive to calm the hearts of these beings, allowing them to accept the situation without resentment. This is the highest form of compassion—both for the beings you have harmed and for your own spiritual growth.
At Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, Practitioner Su possesses the ability to perform Chao Du through visualization. Through the power of the , he assists the fourfold assembly in opening their entire being. Within this state, the beings residing within our bodies receive the Buddha's and are illuminated by the Buddha-light. This light softens their hatred, their resentment, and their deep-seated desire for revenge. When these beings receive the benefits of the , the majority of their suffering is immediately alleviated.
If these beings are transformed by the Buddha-light and are willing to enter the golden light, they will receive Chao Du. They may then chant Buddha's name and be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, or perhaps in the realms of humans and devas, effectively ending their suffering in this lifetime. This is truly a magnificent act of our Buddha’s infinite compassion.
