A Father's Plea from the Beyond

This is a record of an interview with the spirit of Lee Kuan Yew, who sought Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. He reflects upon his life as a national leader, the unseen consequences of his actions, and his profound concern for his son. This session was recorded by the chief writer, Lay Practitioner Cao Rudi, on September 25, 2018.

Lee Kuan Yew speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Lee Kuan Yew. Throughout my life, my heart and mind were constantly tethered to the affairs of the nation. Everything in this world is created by the heart and mind. I always reminded myself of the importance of being upright and transparent. Especially as a leader of a country, one's moral character serves as a benchmark for the people; it has a significant influence on the cultivation of the public's heart and mind. I would not dare to claim that I was one hundred per cent free of mistakes, but I often reminded myself of the importance of this integrity.

A Vision of the Brain-Gouging Hell

Today, I followed Practitioner Su during the morning deliverance. Along the way, I visited various hells. We first arrived at the brain-gouging hell. Watching the scene of blood dripping—it was truly too horrific to behold. It made me tremble. I realised then that when one is constantly racking their brains, using every ounce of strategy to achieve their planned goals, they may be creating heavy karmic retribution without even knowing it, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

This is even more concerning when I think of my son, Hsien Loong, who currently occupies such an important leadership position in the country. He, too, must use his mind constantly, exhausting his intellect and calculating every move. I dare not imagine what kind of judgements he might face after his life concludes. It is a terrifying thought for a father to bear.

The Weight of Power and the Laws of Karma

When one holds a position of high status and great power, fame and fortune often lead a person to create sins without their own awareness. If one does not study the Buddha-Dharma, how could they possibly understand the importance of the laws of karma and cause and effect, or the importance of Generosity? While other religious groups also have concepts of giving, none of them analyse these truths as clearly and profoundly as Buddhism.

A Father's Urgent Call to My Son

To my son, Hsien Loong: the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia has broken through the barriers of sickness and death. As long as you diligently practise the Buddha-Dharma and focus on your own purification, you can even achieve the state of being free and at ease regarding life and death. If you could make a trip here to investigate this for yourself, to adjust your own body and mind, you would be able to walk a much longer and more stable path. The country needs you, and the future direction of the people of Singapore needs your far-sighted planning even more.

Put down everything you have in your hands for a moment. Make the arrangements. You will not find this journey to be in vain. I, your father, can also take this opportunity to share the words from my heart that I did not have time to tell you while I was still alive. Do not hesitate any longer. Please, ask your secretary to help arrange the itinerary. Your father is waiting for you.
